The most influential architectural firm in the late 19th century in America. Founded in 1879 by Charles Follen McKim (1847-1909), William Rutherford Mead (1846-1928), and Stanford White (1853-1906), McKim was a pioneer in the architectural world of America, which was in a period of prosperity and began to become conscious of independence and favored classicism. McKim's firm followed the trend of the time, introducing free floor plans to residential buildings and applying sophisticated stylized decoration to public and commercial buildings, thereby exerting great leadership.
