Published around 1633 (Kan'ei 10). Editor and publisher unknown. Two volumes. A compilation of 191 kyoka poems from ancient times to the present (plus 18 haiku poems and one old song) categorized into four themes: Four Seasons, Love, Journeys, Reminiscence, Buddhism, Sorrow, Gods, and Miscellaneous. The authors of the collected works range from Teika and Kyougetsubo of the Kamakura period to more recent figures such as Hosokawa Yusai, Satomura Shoha, and Yuchi Yoro, but there are also many works whose authors are unknown, and mad names such as Mae Ojoto Ason, Mother of the Minister of Tea in Uji, and Muzen Houshi are already in use. There are also many rakushu poems, and the work is full of bold humor throughout. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
