[Born] Yonghui 1 (650)? [Died] Kaiyuan 1 (713)? A Chinese poet of the early Tang dynasty. Born in Neihuang, Xiangzhou (Henan Province). His pen name was Yunqing. In 675, he passed the Jinshi examination and held the posts of Xie Li Lang and Ji Zhong, but because he had courted Zhang Yizhi, he was charged with bribery when Empress Wu Zetian's government fell and was exiled to Jizhou (North Vietnam). Later, during the Shenlong era, he was recalled to the central government, and served as a direct scholar of the Shubunkan, a Zhongshu Sheren, and a Prince's Junior Clerk (Senji). He was influenced by the poetry of the Six Dynasties but had a fresh style of poetry, and was active as a court poet along with Song Zhiwen and Du Xinyan. He was also instrumental in perfecting the form of seven-character regulated verse (→ regulated verse) together with Song Zhiwen, and is referred to as "Shen Song."
