[Reed Organ]
In the mid-19th century, a new type of harmonium with a suction-type blower and smaller reeds was invented by the French company Alexandre, and was later improved and mass-produced by the American companies Esty and Mason & Hamlin. It is called the American organ, the cottage organ (Britain), and the Alexandre harmonium (France). During the Meiji period, this was brought to Japan by American and British missionaries, where it became widely used under the name "reed organ," and domestic production also began.
