The Japan Times Daily Airmail Edition, which has been published since 1957, is sent to more than 100 countries overseas. In September 1865 (Keio 1), the same-named Japan Times was launched, but this was a completely different publication, published by an Englishman named Charles Rickerby, who took over the printing facilities of the Japan Commercial News (1863-65, translated and published as the Yokohama Shimbun, the Japan Boeki Shimbun, etc.).
