Jiroshin (English)

Japanese: 二郎神 - じろうしん（英語表記）Èr láng shén

A Chinese folk god, said to be the second son of Li Bing, the prefect of Shu during the Qin dynasty. It is also called "Guankou Erlang" because its temple was located at Guankou, northwest of Guan County, Sichuan Province. Li Bing was worshipped since ancient times for his contributions to flood control (Dujiangyan) of the Min River that flows through Guan County, but it is thought that the deity of his son Erlang was born during the Song dynasty. There is also a theory that it is Zhao Yu, who was appointed prefect of Jiazhou in Shu by Emperor Yang of Sui and also contributed to flood control.

中国，民間の神の名で，秦代の蜀の太守，李冰（りひよう）の第2子をまつったものという。廟宇が四川省灌県北西の灌口にあったことから〈灌口二郎〉ともよばれる。李冰は灌県を流れる岷江（みんこう）の治水(都江堰)に功績があったので，古くから信仰されていたが，宋代に分化してその子二郎の神格が生まれたと考えられる。また隋の煬帝（ようだい）が蜀の嘉州太守に任じ，同じく治水に功績のあった趙昱（ちよういく）とする説もある。
