Shirouo (soda fish) - Shirouo (English spelling) ice goby

Shirouo (soda fish) - Shirouo (English spelling) ice goby
A coastal fish of the Goby family in the Perciformes order (illustration). It is temperate and found in areas south of Aomori. Its body is long and slender, with no scales. When alive, it is a transparent pale yellow color, but when dead, it turns white. Because its name is similar, it is often mistaken for an icefish (Salmoniformes, Icefish family), but its body is slightly cylindrical, and if you look closely at each one, you will see that they are clearly different in appearance. Males have larger pectoral fins than females, and females have a row of small black spots on their ventral sides. It lives in sand near the shore or in sandy mud areas, and swims not only in the bottom layer but also in the mid-layer.
