Kijimoto Rōzō

Kijimoto Rōzō

Also known as "Rozo." Legal scholar. Graduated from Tokyo Imperial University in 1903 (Meiji 36). After serving as a probationary judicial officer and other positions, he became a professor at Kyoto Imperial University's School of Law in 1908. He received his doctorate in law and taught civil procedure law at university. A pioneer in Japanese civil procedure law, he also placed emphasis on practical aspects, setting up the Japan Law Institute in Osaka to provide legal advice, and also mentoring farmers in a tenant farm dispute in his hometown (Narumi, Aichi Prefecture). His books include Collected Essays on the Law of Civil Procedure, Issues in the Law of Civil Procedure, and three volumes of Case Law Criticism.

「ろうぞう」ともよばれる。法学者。1903年(明治36)東京帝国大学卒業。司法官試補などを経て、08年京都帝国大学法科教授。法学博士。大学では民事訴訟法講座を担当。日本の民事訴訟法学の先覚者であり、同時に実践面を重視して、大阪に日本法律研究所を設け法律相談に応じ、また、郷里(愛知県鳴海(なるみ))の小作争議で農民を指導した。著書として『民事訴訟法論文集』、『民事訴訟法の諸問題』、『判例批評録』3巻がある。
