It is considered to be a society that appears after industrialization has progressed sufficiently. J. Baudrillard called a consumer society a society in which things are consumed not for their own utility, but for the symbolic value that arises from their distinctive relationship with other things. If all things have symbolic existence, then the distinction between originals (non-symbolic) and copies does not hold. Baudrillard tries to describe the state in which reality is composed of such symbolic existences using words such as "simulation" and "simulacrum." A simulacrum is a symbolic existence without an original, and a simulation is a system that produces such existences.
