Jinuo people (English spelling)

Japanese: チノー族(基諾族) - チノーぞく(英語表記)Jī nuò zú
Jinuo people (English spelling)
One of China's ethnic minorities officially recognized in 1979. In Chinese books they are written as Youle, but they call themselves Jino. Population: 18,000 (1990). They live in Jino Mountain, Jinghong County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. They are engaged in farming, with upland rice, wet rice, and corn as their main crops. Jino Mountain is also one of the six major tea mountains for Pu'er tea. Long ago, Zhuge Liang (Kongming) gave tea seeds to the soldiers who accompanied him on his southern expedition to Yunnan. The soldiers who stayed there and planted tea are said to be the ancestors of today's Jino people.
