Temple - Shoja

Japanese: 精舎 - しょうじゃ
Temple - Shoja

A dwelling place for Buddhist practitioners, generally called a monastery or temple. A translation of the Pali word ārāma and the Sanskrit word vihāra. It means a hall where monks and nuns who practice the path live. The origin of the monastery is the Bamboo Grove Monastery in Rajagriha, and it is also famous as the Jetavana Monastery in Shravasti, which was donated to Shakyamuni (Shaka) by the wealthy Sudatta.
