Japanese: ヒノキゴケ（英語表記）Rhizogonium dozyanum Lac.

Also known as weasel tail. A beautiful moss of the Cupressaceae family. Distributed in China and Japan. It is found in low mountain areas south of Honshu, where it grows in colonies on humus-rich soil or rocks in slightly shady, damp places. Its flexible leaves create beautiful, soft-feeling colonies, making it a popular material for moss gardens. The plant body is yellow-green to dark green, and the older, browned parts persist for a long time. The stem is 5-10 cm tall and curves at the top. The leaves are linear and 6-10 mm long, and when wet they unfold, making the plant body resemble the tail of an animal such as a weasel.

イタチノシッポともいう。ヒノキゴケ科の美しい蘚類。中国と日本に分布する。本州以南の低山地に産し，やや陰湿な場所の腐植質の多い土上や岩上に群生する。葉がしなやかで，柔らかい感じの美しい群落をつくるので，コケ庭の素材として賞用される。植物体は黄緑色～暗緑色で，褐色となった古い部分も長く宿存する。茎は高さ5～10cm，上部で湾曲する。葉は線形で長さ6～10mm，湿ると展開して植物体はイタチなどの動物の尾を思わせる。
