The name refers to a group of about 50 Mexican intellectuals during P. Díaz's first administration (1884-88). Prominent members include Limantour, F. Bulnes, Sierra, E. Rabasa, J. Casasús, P. Parra, and S. Camacho. The name comes from Sierra's argument that "governments should be composed of people who understand science." Initially, this group was an intellectual group, but after 1892, in order to sustain the Díaz administration, it transformed into a political party called the "Unión Liberal," which overhauled the electoral system. リマントゥールLimantour,ブルネスF.Bulnes,シエラ,ラバサE.Rabasa,カサススJ.Casasús,パラP.Parra,カマチョS.Camachoらが著名である。
