The ten conveniences and the ten conveniences

Japanese: 十便十宜図 - じゅうべんじゅうぎず

This is a collaboration between Ike Taiga and Yosa Buson, who are said to have perfected Japanese literati painting. It is based on the meaning of the poem "Ten Conveniences and Twelve Good Poems," which praises the goodness and convenience of life at Yiyuan, a villa belonging to the early Qing dynasty literati Li Yu. Taiga has painted the ten conveniences, while Buson has painted ten of the twelve good things. In the "Ten Conveniences," a visitor asks about the inconveniences of secluded life at Yiyuan, and Li Yu responds that there are many more convenient ways to live there than in the streets. Taiga has painted the human experience in relation to nature and the subtleties of their interaction in a unique, large-scale, and relaxed manner.

日本文人画の大成者といわれる池大雅，与謝蕪村の合作。清初の文人李漁の別荘であった伊園での生活の良さ，便利さを賞賛した詩《十便十二宜詩》の詩意をくんで描いたもので，十便を大雅が，十二宜のうちの十宜を蕪村が描いている。十便は，伊園での隠遁生活の不便さを問う訪客に，巷間での生活よりもこんなに便利な点があると答えた内容を描いたもので，大雅は自然に対する人間の営み，その触れ合いの機微を個性豊かに，かつ大きくゆったりと描いている。
