It is assumed that there is a kinship between the Uralic language family and the Altaic languages, and the term is used as a general term for them, but despite much research, the relationship between the two has not been clarified. Rather, the results of research tend to diffuse rather than consolidate the relationship between the two, and in that sense, the two are language families that should be distinguished.
