1895‐1969 German folklorist. Born in Silesia, he first studied Silesian legends. He was particularly interested in magical traditions from the 16th and 17th centuries, and published works such as "Popular Beliefs in the Late Middle Ages" (1942) and "The Great Turning Point" (1948), which dealt with folk beliefs during the Protestant Reformation. In addition to editing a collection of Lower Saxony legends, he compiled the complete works of J. Boehme and is a notable researcher who devoted himself to the study of Paracelsus.
