Ixia; African corn lily

Japanese: イキシア(英語表記)Ixia; Aflican corn lily
Ixia; African corn lily
A general term for the Ixia genus of the Iridaceae family. It is a bulbous plant with about 30 species that grow naturally in South Africa. It is easy to crossbreed, and many horticultural varieties have been developed. It has sword-shaped leaves and wire-like stems, and the flowers form spikes or panicles. The flowers of the almost same size and shape come in a wide variety of colors, including white, pink, red, scarlet, yellow, purple, and blue-green. Ixia viridiflora I. viridiflora is characterized by its metallic blue-green color, which gives it a metallic and mysterious look. It is cultivated as a semi-cold-hardy bulbous plant in flower beds and pots, and is also produced as cut flowers. The English name African corn lily comes from the fact that it is a weed in corn fields in its native land. It is planted in October, covered with about 5 cm of soil. During the frost season, frost protection such as a frame is necessary. If it is a potted plant, it should be brought indoors in winter. After flowering, when the leaves turn yellow, dig up the bulbs and store them.
