...In Akita, they are called Kaminariuo (Thunderfish) because thunder often sounds around November when they come ashore to spawn. In Takada and Nou, Niigata Prefecture, they are called Shimaaji, and in Tottori, they are called Kahata (White Hata) or Shirohata (White Hata). Their bodies are slightly elongated and laterally compressed, with no scales or lateral lines.
