〘 noun 〙① A tag attached to an item as a marker. A tag. ② A piece of paper pasted on a main sheet with instructions, opinions, replies, etc. written on it. A tsukegami (paper tag). A hanging tag. A sticky note. ※Essays, Oritaku Shiba no Ki (around 1716), part 2: "The drafts of the meeting and the tags attached by the senior councilors were all copied." ③ During the Edo period, a paper pasted on a lower court's notice of punishment (shiokiukagai) submitted by a lower court with instructions written on it. ※Goshoki Rei Ruishu - Koruishu, 1, Meiwa 9 (1772), Matsudaira Ukyodayu-dono Goguchitatsu: "If the plaintiff has lodgings, summon Tsuchiya Noto-no-kami on the day of the meeting and inform him of the tag." ④ In order to boost morale at a trading market, deliberately buying and selling things at a low price and posting a price tag.
