Dhikr (English spelling)

Japanese: ジクル（英語表記）dhikr

In Islam, it is a religious act of chanting the name of God and focusing one's thoughts on God. Originally it meant "to remember," "to think about," "to recall," "to state," or "to express verbally." Depending on the subject, it can also mean "condemnation," "denunciation," "praise," or "glory." A usage characteristic of the Quran is "praising the glory of God" and "praising and praising God by chanting His name" by saying certain phrases such as "God is great" and "Glory to God!".

イスラムにおいて，神の名を唱え，思念を神に集中する宗教的行為。元来は，〈思い出すこと〉〈思念すること〉〈想起すること〉，〈述べること〉〈口で言い表すこと〉を意味する。さらにその対象に応じて〈非難〉〈弾劾〉となったり，〈賛美〉〈称賛〉となったりする。コーランに特徴的な用法は，〈神は偉大なり〉〈神に栄光あれ！〉のような一定の言葉を口にして〈神の栄光を称えること〉〈御名を唱えて神を賛美し称えること〉である。
