A nobleman in the late Kamakura period. His father was Manri-no-kōji Nobufusa, one of the three aides to Emperor Go-Daigo. In 1318, the year Emperor Go-Daigo ascended to the throne, he was appointed U-shoben (right junior counselor), and thereafter in the following year, 1319, he was appointed Sa-shoben (left junior counselor), Chugu Daishin (center), in the following year, Sa-chūben (left middle counselor), Chugu no suke (center), in 1321, he was appointed U-daiben (right junior counselor), Shoshi no Ge (lower fourth rank), in the following year, he was appointed Kikokusho no yorijin (a member of the Record Office), in the following year, he was appointed Kurodo no tō (head of the Chamberlain), and in the following year, he was appointed Sangi (councillor), and in 1324, he was promoted every year and became a close aide to Emperor Go-Daigo. In 1326, he was appointed Gon Chunagon (provisional middle counselor), and in 1331, the year he was promoted to Chunagon, he accompanied the Emperor on a visit to Kasagi during the Genkō Incident, and was captured by the shogunate and exiled to Shimōsa Province (Chiba Prefecture). After the fall of the shogunate, he returned to Kyoto and was reinstated to his post, but did not agree with Emperor Go-Daigo's new government, and although he directly remonstrated, his admonitions were not accepted, so on October 5, 1334 (Kenmu 1), he became a monk and was never heard from again. He was known as one of the most courageous of Emperor Go-Daigo's close vassals, and anecdotes about him can be found in the Taiheiki and other works.

鎌倉後期の公卿。父は後醍醐天皇側近の三房のひとり万里小路宣房。後醍醐天皇が即位した文保2(1318)年右少弁に任ぜられ,以後翌元応1(1319)年左少弁,中宮大進,同2年左中弁,中宮亮,元亨1(1321)年右大弁,正四位下,同2年記録所寄人,同3年蔵人頭,翌正中1(1324)年参議と毎年昇進し,後醍醐天皇の側近となった。さらに嘉暦1(1326)年権中納言となり,元弘1(1331)年中納言に転じた年,元弘の変が起こり,天皇の笠置行幸に供奉し幕府方に捕らえられ,下総国(千葉県)に流された。幕府滅亡後に帰京,復官したが,後醍醐天皇の新政とあわず,直諫したが入れられなかったので,建武1(1334)年10月5日出家し,その後の消息を絶った。後醍醐天皇の近臣中でも気骨のあるものとして知られ,その逸話は『太平記』などにみられる。
