Mukabaki
A travel item worn around the feet. The style varies depending on the character. A "gyo-hi" is a type of cloth cut into strips and wrapped around the ankle and below the knee for long-distance walking. A poem by Lu You from the Song Dynasty in China reads, "Tomorrow I will tear a piece of cloth and sew a gyo-hi," and the Manyoshu also reads, "You resting on the beach wearing a gyo-hi" (You are resting in a gyo-hi on the beach) suggest this style. It is also said that gyo-hi was attached to tanko (short armor for walking) and made of brocade or ashiginu (silk) (Todaiji Temple Offerings).

足の部分にまとう旅行具。字によって形式を異にする。〈行縢〉は長途の歩行用として布帛(ふはく)類を細長く裁って足首からひざの下にかけて巻きつける形式で,中国宋代の陸游の詩の中に〈明日,布をさきて行縢を縫う〉とあるのも,《万葉集》に〈うつばりに行縢かけて息むこのきみ〉とあるのもこの形式のものを推量させるし,徒歩用の甲冑(かつちゆう)である短甲にも行縢を付属させ,これを錦や絁(あしぎぬ)で仕立てたとある(〈東大寺献物帳〉)。
