A town in Shioya County, central Tochigi Prefecture. It is located on the north bank of the upper reaches of the Kinu River, and most of the town area is mountainous and hilly. Tamayu, in the town's center, was a former post station on the Nikko Kita Kaido road. The town is primarily engaged in agriculture and forestry, and also has some lumber-related businesses. It is home to the Sanuki Stone Buddhas (historic site). The town sustained damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 176.06 km2 . 12,560 people (2010).
