...After the 15th century, the university flourished due to the establishment of a Greek language course second only to the University of Florence by Pope Innocent VII and the reconstruction of the university by Pope Eugene IV, and played a part in the rise of humanism. Under Pope Leo X, the Pontifical University was annexed, and the university had its own building and was called the Palazzo della Sapienza (Palace of Knowledge), but it declined in the 17th century and was temporarily restored by the reforms of Pope Benedict XIV in the 18th century. However, it was only after the government reforms after the Italian unification that the university, which had only secondary importance compared to the University of Bologna, was positioned as a central university in Italy to some extent. ...
