An uninhabited island located in eastern Shizuoka Prefecture, about 10 km south of Shimoda Port in the southern Izu Peninsula. Its circumference is about 4 km. It belongs to Shimoda City. The lighthouse, completed in 1870 (Meiji 3), is one of the oldest Western-style lighthouses in Japan and a historic site. The surrounding coastline is ideal for rock fishing. As it is privately owned, permission is required to access the island. It belongs to Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.
