This is a Soto Zen temple in Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was founded during the Oei era (1394-1428) by Washizu Hirotada, the deputy governor of Nagato, with Sekio Shinryo as the founder. Under the protection of the governor Ouchi clan, the temple flourished, producing many famous monks, but in 1551, when Ouchi Yoshitaka committed suicide at the temple following a rebellion by the Sue clan, the halls and pagodas were also destroyed in a fire. It was later rebuilt by Mori Motonari. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
