Also called tidal line. A band-like streak that appears on the ocean surface. In many cases, it is the contact surface (tidal boundary) of two water masses with different properties that appears on the ocean surface. There are calm ones like oil spills, foamy ones, rippling ones, and spring tides with whitecaps and triangular waves. They are formed by the convergence of flow lines, and seaweed, bubbles, and other floating objects gather there. The tidal line meanders and is accompanied by whirlpools. They tend to occur where cold and warm currents, or open ocean water and coastal water, come into contact, and in Japan, they are often found off the coast of Sanriku. They often form around reefs, capes, and islands due to topographical reasons. They are often favorable fishing grounds because schools of both warm and cold fish tend to gather together by riding the current, and the upwelling current brings up nutrients and promotes the proliferation of plankton.
