German critic and writer. Born in Brussels, Belgium. Studied at the universities of Berlin and Bonn, the latter under ER Curtius. After studying Romance languages, he moved to Italy in 1940 to work as a newspaper correspondent and write. His two books on Mannerism, The World as Labyrinth (1957) and Mannerism in Literature (1959), were ambitious works that continued his teacher's academic style and treat Mannerism as a historical constant that constantly opposes the rigidity of classicism, and contributed greatly to its revival. His other works include Despair and Certainty, Diary of Europe, and the novel Magna Graecia.Atka mackerel→ Related article Black cod Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
