Shioyazaki

Japanese: 塩屋埼 - しおやざき

A cape facing the Pacific Ocean in southeastern Fukushima Prefecture. It is located in Taira Usuiso, Iwaki City. The southern part of Hamadori is a topography of alternating Tertiary hills, coastal terraces (plateaus), and coastal plains (lowlands), among which the hills and plateaus protrude slightly toward the sea and form capes. To the south of Shioyazaki, similar capes such as Kassozaki, Ryugasaki, and Misaki are lined up at intervals of about 3 kilometers. Part of Iwaki Coast Prefectural Natural Park, there is a lighthouse that opened in 1899 (Meiji 32) on a 40-meter-high sea cliff.

Shioyazaki
A cape jutting out into the Pacific Ocean in the eastern part of Iwaki City. The surrounding waters have long been known as a dangerous place, and in 1899 (Meiji 32), Shioyazaki Lighthouse was opened on the cliffs. The lighthouse is a beloved symbol of Iwaki City. The film "How Many Years of Joy and Sorrow" was produced based on the memoirs of the wife of the lighthouse keeper at the time, which were published in 1956 (Showa 31). 福島県南東部、太平洋に臨む岬。いわき市平(たいら)薄磯(うすいそ)にある。浜通り南部は、第三紀層の丘陵、海岸段丘（台地）、海岸平野（低地）などが交互に配列する地形であるが、そのうち丘陵、台地の部分がやや海側に突出して岬となる。塩屋埼の南方には約3キロメートルの間隔で同様の合磯(かっそ)岬、竜ヶ崎、三崎などが並ぶ。磐城(いわき)海岸県立自然公園に含まれ、高さ40メートルの海食崖(かいしょくがい)上に1899年（明治32）開設の灯台がある。
