Treaty of Sa`adābād

The Treaty of Non-Aggression of Mutual Borders and Non-Interference in Internal Affairs was concluded on July 8, 1937 by the four Islamic countries of Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and Iraq. It was so named because it was signed at the Saadabad Palace near the Iranian capital of Tehran. The treaty was intended to strengthen unity between the four countries, with the help of British maneuvering, against a backdrop of instability on their borders after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the growing influence of the Soviet Union in the Middle East after World War I.

1937年7月8日，トルコ，イラン，アフガニスタン，イラクの4イスラム教国が結んだ，国境相互不可侵，内政不干渉条約。イランの首都テヘラン近郊のサーダーバード離宮で調印されたため，この名がある。オスマン帝国崩壊後，互いに国境が不安定だったこと，第1次世界大戦後ソ連の影響力が中近東に伸びてきたことなどを背景にイギリスの工作もあって，これら4国が結束を固めようとしたものである。
