…The term topology also first appeared in literature as the title of a pamphlet written by JB Listing (1808-82) in 1847. Following these people, surfaces were also studied by C. Jordan, L. Schläfli (1814-95), W. F. von Dyck (1856-1934), and others, and by the end of the 19th century, the classification of closed surfaces by homeomorphism was completed. Regarding curves, Jordan's theorem was proven (1893), which states that if a closed curve that does not intersect itself lies on a plane, it divides the plane into two regions, inside and outside, and G. Peano discovered a continuous curve that fills the interior of a square (1890), which raised questions about the definition of curves and dimensions. …
