An evergreen shrub of the Melastomataceae family that bears beautiful pale pink flowers with a diameter of about 1-3 cm at the ends of branches. It is also called canary-shaped lily. It is planted in gardens in warm regions for decorative purposes, and is grown as a potted plant. It is native to Yakushima and Okinawa. It grows to about 1 m in height, with rounded branches and reddish-bristly and short hairs. The leaves are ovate or ovate-oblong, pointed at the tip, slightly cordate at the base, and sparsely hairy on both sides. In summer, it produces a terminal inflorescence about 10 cm long that bears sparse flowers in a cone shape. 花径1~3cmくらいの淡紅色の美しい花を枝の先にたくさんつけるノボタン科の常緑低木。ハシカンボクともいう。観賞用として暖地の庭に植えたり,鉢物として作られる。原産地は屋久島,沖縄。高さ1mくらいで枝はまるく,赤褐色の剛毛と短毛がつく。葉は卵形または卵状長楕円形で,先はとがり,基部はやや心臓形で両面にまばらに毛がある。夏に長さ10cm内外の花序を頂生し,円錐状に花をまばらにつける。花弁は4枚でやや菱形をなし,おしべには長いものと短いものがあり,長いものはよく目だつ。
