Left Sutra - Sakeiki

Japanese:
Left Sutra - Sakeiki

This is the diary of the councilor, Left Minister Minamoto Tsuneyori (985-1039) in the mid-Heian period. It consists of 15 manuscript volumes. It is also called "Shisokuki" after Tsuneyori's name, and Sakyoki is an abbreviation of "Left Minister Tsuneyori-ki." It contains accounts from 1016 (Chowa 5) to 1036 (Chogen 9), and the 15th volume is titled "Ruijū Zatsurei" and lists the misfortunes that occurred from 1029 (Chogen 2) to 1036. It is known that there was also an entry for 1037 (Choreki 1), but it no longer exists. Although there are some gaps in the records from this period, as it was during the height of the regent's powers and he served as Benkan, Kurodo, and Tou, many of the records relate to political affairs, making this a valuable historical resource for research into this period, along with Fujiwara no Sanesuke's Shoyuki. Published versions include the Shiryo Taisei and Shiryo Tsuran editions.
