…A description of all the main characteristics of a biological group in order to define it. A description of only the characteristics unique to the group in order to highlight its characteristics is called a diagnosis, which is sometimes distinguished from a description. The description given when a taxonomic group is reported for the first time (such as a new species or genus) is called an original description.
