Sessha/Sub-shrine - Sesshamassha

Japanese: 摂社・末社 - せっしゃまっしゃ
Sessha/Sub-shrine - Sesshamassha
A small shrine attached to the main shrine within a single shrine. In the past, it was written as "seketsu", but in the Meiji era, it was decided that for Ise Jingu and Kankokuheisha, shrines closely related to the main shrine are called sessha, and the next small shrine is called a sub-shrine. This is not a matter of shrine rank, but rather, shrines closely related to the main shrine, such as shrines that worship the queen or child of the main shrine's deity, shrines established on the former site of the main shrine, shrines that worship the rough spirit of the main shrine's deity, and shrines of the land god, are called sessha, and the next shrine is called a sub-shrine. Shrines within the precincts of the main shrine are called sub-shrines within the precincts or sub-shrines within the precincts, and those outside the precincts are called sub-shrines outside the precincts or sub-shrines outside the precincts, but some of these had the rank of prefecture shrines, village shrines, village shrines, etc.
