The term refers to British peasants whose land titles were customarily guaranteed by a copy of the Manor Court Register. It is translated as "copy-holding peasants." It was established around the end of the 14th century, but as early as the 16th century, lords began to turn them into leaseholders. It was formally abolished by the Property Act 1922. → Related Articles Freeholders Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
