...Pliny says that a medicine for rabies can be made from a human skull (Natural History, Book 28). In Hinduism, Brahma created the storm god Rudra, or Shiva, and called him Kapali (meaning "skull-bearer") and asked him to protect the world. Shiva was angry at being called Kapali and decapitated Brahma with the nail of his left thumb, but the skull stuck to his hand and remained there for 12 years (Bharaha Purana)....
