Caimaninae

...A general term for crocodiles that include the name caiman, part of the Alligator family. Five species are found in the tropical regions of southern Mexico and South America. The most well-known, the spectacled caiman ( Caiman crocodilus ) (illustration), has an average total length of 1.5-2m, with a maximum of 2.5m, and is found widely from southern Central America to Paraguay in South America. The name comes from the ridges in front of the eyes that look as if the animal is wearing spectacles.
