A city in southeastern Wyoming, USA. It is located at an altitude of 2,100 meters. It has a population of 27,204 (2,000). It developed as an agricultural trading center surrounded by vast cattle ranching areas, and is lined with railroad repair shops, lumber mills, and food processing plants. It is also the home of the University of Wyoming (founded in 1886), and has a variety of facilities, including a museum that collects historical materials from the pioneer era and a concert hall, making it the city's educational and cultural center. Recreational areas attract many tourists and vacationers throughout the year for skiing, hunting, fishing, and other activities, and tourism is also important.
