Japanese: 鴻巣[市] - こうのす

A city in central eastern Saitama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It occupies lowlands between Hoshikawa (Minumadai Irrigation Canal) and Arakawa River. The city center developed as a post town and market town on the Nakasendo road in the early modern period. The Takasaki Line and National Route 17 run through the city. It has long been known as the production area of Konosu Hina dolls, and is a specialty of Hina dolls and May dolls. In recent years, the plastic products and transportation equipment industries have flourished. In the rural areas, agriculture is centered on rice and wheat, and potted flowers such as pansies and cyclamens are also cultivated. There are many ancient tombs in Mamuro in the south. In October 2005, Kawasato Town in Kitasaitama County and Fukiage Town in Kitaadachi County were incorporated. ^{67.44 km2} . 119,639 people (2010).

埼玉県中東部の市。1954年市制。星川（見沼代用水）と荒川にはさまれた低地を占める。中心市街は近世に中山道の宿場町，市場町として発達した。高崎線，国道17号線が通じる。古くから鴻巣雛(ひな)の産地として知られ，雛人形，五月人形を特産。近年プラスチック製品，輸送用機器の工業が盛ん。農村部では米麦中心の農業が営まれ，パンジー，シクラメンなど鉢物の花の栽培も盛ん。南部の馬室(まむろ)には古墳が多い。2005年10月北埼玉郡川里町，北足立郡吹上町を編入。67.44km²。11万9639人（2010）。
