A type of underpants for women and children. They are loose fitting with a tight waist and hem. They are used for exercise as they allow easy leg movement. They were so named because American women's liberation activist Amelia Bloomer recommended them in the mid-19th century. In Japan, they were adopted as knee-length gym wear, especially for female students, from the Taisho to Showa periods, and were called bloomers or bloomers. Even after World War II, panty-style ones continued to be used as gym wear for female students. → Related item Drawers Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
