Born June 9, 1810. A shogunate official. In 1852, he became the Kyoto magistrate and investigated the various tombs in Kyoto and the surrounding area, publishing "A Study of the Imperial Mausoleums of the Former Emperors." He learned calligraphy from Sugiura Seigai and painting from Tsubaki Chinzan. He loved poetry and prose, and was well versed in appraising calligraphy and paintings. He passed away on February 17, 1880. He was 65 years old. He was from Edo. His pen name was Tanekyo. He was commonly known as Kinnojo. His pen names were Umedo and Sohokaku.
