Nagayoshi Asano

Japanese: 浅野長祚 - あさのながよし

1816-1880 A samurai from the late Edo period.
Born June 9, 1810. A shogunate official. In 1852, he became the Kyoto magistrate and investigated the various tombs in Kyoto and the surrounding area, publishing "A Study of the Imperial Mausoleums of the Former Emperors." He learned calligraphy from Sugiura Seigai and painting from Tsubaki Chinzan. He loved poetry and prose, and was well versed in appraising calligraphy and paintings. He passed away on February 17, 1880. He was 65 years old. He was from Edo. His pen name was Tanekyo. He was commonly known as Kinnojo. His pen names were Umedo and Sohokaku. His other works include "Meishinroku of the Calligraphy and Paintings of Sohokaku."

文化13年6月9日生まれ。幕臣。嘉永(かえい)5年京都町奉行となり,京都と周辺の諸陵を調査して「歴代廟陵考」をあらわす。書を杉浦西涯(せいがい)に,画を椿椿山(つばき-ちんざん)らにまなぶ。詩文をこのみ,書画の鑑識に通じた。明治13年2月17日死去。65歳。江戸出身。字(あざな)は胤卿。通称は金之丞。号は梅堂,漱芳閣(そうほうかく)。著作はほかに「漱芳閣書画銘心録」など。
