Gunung Kelut (mountain) (English spelling)

Japanese: ケルート[山]（英語表記）Gunung Kelut

A stratovolcano in the eastern part of Java, Indonesia. It is 1,731m above sea level. There is a crater lake at the summit. When this volcano erupts, the water from the crater lake erupts and flows down the foot of the mountain as lahar, causing disasters. In the 1919 eruption, 5,000 people were killed as a result. As a result, Dutch engineers dug a tunnel into the crater in an effort to lower the water level of the crater lake, and even today the tunnel keeps the water level low to prevent lahars from occurring due to explosions.
