〘noun〙 A person who translates between people who speak different languages or who have language difficulties, and helps them understand each other's intentions. Also, the person who does this. Interpreter. [Book of the Later Han - Treatise on the Records of Emperors] [Additional note] This term came into use mainly during the Meiji period, replacing the "interpreter" and " interpreter" used until the early modern period.
