Goeldi's monkey

Goeldi's monkey
New World monkeys are divided into two groups, the Marmoset and the Capuchin families, of the primate order, but the Guerdi's monkey has been variously treated as either part of the Marmoset family, or the Capuchin family, or more recently as an independent family (illustration). Its head and body length is 20 cm. It looks like a black marmoset, and all of its claws on its hands and feet except for its big toe are claws, which is characteristic of the Marmoset family, but its dental formula is , which is characteristic of the Capuchin family. In this way, the Guerdi's monkey has an intermediate morphology between the two groups of New World monkeys, making it a valuable specimen when considering the evolution of New World monkeys.
