Keisei Electric Railway

A private railway company. Founded as Keisei Electric Tramway in 1909. Merged with Tsukuba Rapid Railway in 1930. Changed to current name in 1945. The company has a line connecting eastern Tokyo with northern Chiba Prefecture, and is also known for pilgrimages to Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. In recent years, the volume of traffic has increased due to residential areas along the line. In particular, with the construction of New Tokyo International Airport, the main line was extended to the airport station, making it an important transportation link. It has a mutual interchange with the Toei Subway Asakusa Line at Oshiage Station, and connects with Keikyu Corporation at Sengakuji Station. In addition to railways, the company also operates buses, real estate, amusement parks, and other businesses. Affiliated companies include Keisei Store, Keisei Real Estate, Keisei Hotel, and Oriental Land. The company's routes are the Main Line (69.3km between Keisei Ueno and Narita Airport (including 2.1km of the Narita Airport Rapid Transit Line, a Class 2 railway), the Chiba Line (12.9km), the Oshiage Line (5.7km), the Kanamachi Line (2.5km), and the Higashi-Narita Line (7.1km, of which 6.0km overlaps with the Main Line), with a total operating mileage of 102.4km and a total bus operating mileage of 2,415.6km. The company's business activities are railways 60%, automobiles 27%, real estate sales 9%, and rentals 4%. Annual operating revenue is 236,626 million yen (consolidated), capital is 24,287 million yen, and the number of employees is 3,190 (2003).
