Jing-shi zhi-yong (English: Jing-shi zhi-yong)

This is a phrase that expresses the purpose of learning, advocated by Chinese scholars in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, that learning should govern the world and promote practical benefits. Since Ming scholarship was becoming hollow and there was a lack of measures to deal with the decline in the latter stages, the Donglin school advocated this, and as advocated by Wang Fuzhi, Huang Zongxi, Gu Yanwu and others in the early Qing dynasty, it paved the way for learning in the Qing dynasty, but the Qing dynasty's textual research deviated from this.

中国，明末～清初の学者が唱えた学問の目的を表わす言葉で，学問は世を治め，実益を増進するものでなければならないということ。明代の学問が空疎に流れ，末期の衰乱に対策を欠いていたところから，東林学派によって唱えられ，これが清初の王夫之，黄宗羲，顧炎武らの主張として清代学問の方向を開いたが，清代の考証学はかえってこれを離れた。
