…In Turkish, it is called Lāle devri, and refers to the period (1718-30) during the reign of Ahmet III (1703-30) of the Ottoman Empire, when the Sultan's son-in-law, İbrahim Paşa (?-1730), a man of refined tastes, was appointed as Grand Vizier (sadrasam). This period ushered in an era of appeasement abroad and an unusual period of peace and aestheticism in domestic affairs, thanks to the Grand Vizier's enlightened insight and talented talents.

…He was a leading court poet of the Tulip Age in the Ottoman Empire. He was patronized by Ahmed III's Grand Vizier Ibrahim Pasha and had frequent access to the court, where he served as a judge, madrasa professor, and librarian. In addition to translating Arabic and Persian texts, he composed odes to the Sultan and lyric poems, the latter of which, praising the pleasures of wine, love, and beautiful women, were popular among the people, and many of them were sung as songs. …
