Haegum (English spelling)
Generally, it refers to a Korean two-stringed bow instrument (Kokyu). It has a neck inserted into a small cylindrical body, and is played by placing a bow made of horsehair between the two strings. It was introduced to Korea from Song during the reign of King Yejong of the Goryeo Dynasty. It is now used in general gagaku music and in art music for the general public. The Haegeum, which was used at court banquets during the Qing Dynasty, is an instrument with a different shape and playing style.
