Light metals

This refers to a metal with a low density. It is a conventional term used to classify metals according to their density, and they are divided into heavy metals and light metals. Generally, metals with a density of 4.0 to 5.0 g cm -3 or less are considered light metals. Light metals include beryllium (1.82 g cm -3 ), magnesium (1.74 g cm -3 ), aluminum (2.70 g cm -3 ), alkali metals such as lithium (0.53 g cm -3 ), sodium (0.97 g cm -3 ), potassium (0.86 g cm -3 ), rubidium (1.53 g cm -3 ), and cesium (1.9 g cm -3 ), as well as alkaline earth metals such as calcium (1.55 g cm -3 ), strontium (2.6 g cm -3 ), and barium (3.5 g cm -3 ). Titanium (4.54 g cm -3 ) may be added to the above metals.

密度の小さい金属をいう.慣習的な用語であり,金属を密度の大小によって分類するときに用い,重金属と軽金属とに分類する.一般に,密度が4.0~5.0 g cm-3 以下の金属を軽金属としている.ベリリウム(1.82 g cm-3),マグネシウム(1.74 g cm-3),アルミニウム(2.70 g cm-3),アルカリ金属としてリチウム(0.53 g cm-3),ナトリウム(0.97 g cm-3),カリウム(0.86 g cm-3),ルビジウム(1.53 g cm-3),セシウム(1.9 g cm-3),またアルカリ土類金属としてカルシウム(1.55 g cm-3),ストロンチウム(2.6 g cm-3),バリウム(3.5 g cm-3)などが軽金属となる.上記の金属にチタン(4.54 g cm-3)を加えることがある.
